A nine-year-old boy enjoyed a super shopping spree in Asda but it wasn’t games and sweets for himself that he piled into the trolley – it was all in aid of his local food bank.
Daley Boyes, a Year 5 pupil at St John Bosco Catholic Primary School in Sunderland, wanted to go above and beyond when his school requested food donations for the annual Harvest Festival. So, thanks to money donated by his parents, Hayley Dove and Danny Boyes, and their business clients, as well as using his own pocket money, Daley stocked up on much-needed food for St Aidan’s Catholic Academy Food Bank.
Daley said: “I wanted to help others less fortunate and do a good deed for the community. My Mam and Dad helped me raise some money and the rest I contributed from my pocket money. In our school we are working towards gaining the Live Simply Award and I thought this was the perfect way to show solidarity, generosity and kindness to others. I’d encourage all my friends to try and donate too if they can.”
Acting head of school Philip Roddy said: “We are all incredibly proud of Daley for his outstanding generosity and compassion during our Harvest Festival. His selfless contributions will make a real difference to families in need, and he has set a shining example of kindness and community spirit for us all. It’s inspiring to see such empathy and leadership in one of our pupils.”
