Students from St Wilfrid’s RC College, part of the Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, played a key role in the success of the Little Sticks Festival North-East, held in October at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland.
The festival, organised by Majesticks GC, is part of its headline community impact programme, Little Sticks - a national initiative designed to create a more inclusive and enjoyable environment for children and young people to discover their potential through golf.
This year’s event welcomed 400 primary school children from across the North-East for a day of golf-inspired activities, teamwork and fun. A team of talented Sports Leaders from St Wilfrid’s supported in delivering the sessions, helping to inspire the next generation of young golfers.
The event featured special guest Lee Westwood, former World No. 1 golf champion, who praised the enthusiasm and leadership shown by all participants, “What a fantastic day at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland. It's great to see young leaders and children from schools across the region come together and celebrate the impact our Little Sticks programme is having. Golf is a fantastic sport which teaches you so many life lessons, and we hope children are inspired to continue their journey in golf and apply all the life skills learnt through the game.”
Jordan Stephenson, Head of Impact and Culture at Majesticks GC, also praised the St Wilfrid’s team, “A huge thank you to the young leaders from St Wilfrid’s who co-delivered activities at our Little Sticks Festival. They represented their school outstandingly and received huge praise from teachers and children. The leaders from St Wilfrid’s were such an asset to us and we can’t thank the school enough.”
Representatives from St Wilfrid’s RC College were delighted to support the event, which brought together schools from across the North-East - including many from South Tyneside - for a day celebrating inclusion, leadership and the joy of sport.
Catherine Lennox, Headteacher at St Wilfrid’s RC College, said, “We are incredibly proud of our students for their maturity, teamwork and leadership throughout the Little Sticks Festival. They were outstanding ambassadors for our school and for Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust.”
